Students of SO 101, Welcome to Summer of 2017

I have to preface this section with this thought, "Learning is a life-long journey. From birth to death, we are going to learn something new." I like to cite the work of Earnest Tan in his Guide by our Archetypes, a card he named as The Seeker. The seeker is characterized by being an explorer, a wanderer and a pilgrim. Earnest say that The Seeker surfaces when we respond to the need to take a quest and meet our yearning for a better life or a perfect world."

The message here is that to have a better life we must learn what is in the world. We have to understand the mechanics and the working of this world. True that this world has institutionalized behavior that keeps the machine going. In reality, this institutionalized behavior can be outdated. Just notice, the notion of women voting was anathema a hundred years ago (though is some countries today even with modern concept of living are still boxed in some medieval attitude like: women are not allowed to drive a car).

One of your assignment is to do a research over You Tube on how countries or societies educate their young people. With your partner (only two in a group, individual effort is welcomed), you are going to present a short video clip on this education movement. We shall start on 20 June for presentation. Details will be discussed inside the classroom.

Second, write an individual paper entitled: How I understand science and it will affect my life now and in the future. This will be double spaced with a maximum of 3 pages, font Calibri 12 pts. On the first page row on the 4 inches line, write your name, subject, date of submission. Then start of essay. Deadline is 21 June 2017, Wednesday. No late papers.

Third, write a paper entitled: Who am I? This is a short essay introducing yourself, your goals in life, your study and work-style, your strong habits, habits you wanted to be changed. Ten years from now, how do you see yourself? Follow the format as stated above. Feed back can also be written via email: leonidas.jose@yahoo.com
