Students of SO 101, Welcome to Summer of 2017

I have to preface this section with this thought, "Learning is a life-long journey. From birth to death, we are going to learn something new." I like to cite the work of Earnest Tan in his Guide by our Archetypes, a card he named as The Seeker. The seeker is characterized by being an explorer, a wanderer and a pilgrim. Earnest say that The Seeker surfaces when we respond to the need to take a quest and meet our yearning for a better life or a perfect world."

The message here is that to have a better life we must learn what is in the world. We have to understand the mechanics and the working of this world. True that this world has institutionalized behavior that keeps the machine going. In reality, this institutionalized behavior can be outdated. Just notice, the notion of women voting was anathema a hundred years ago (though is some countries today even with modern concept of living are still boxed in some medieval attitude like: women are not allowed to drive a car).

One of your assignment is to do a research over You Tube on how countries or societies educate their young people. With your partner (only two in a group, individual effort is welcomed), you are going to present a short video clip on this education movement. We shall start on 20 June for presentation. Details will be discussed inside the classroom.

Second, write an individual paper entitled: How I understand science and it will affect my life now and in the future. This will be double spaced with a maximum of 3 pages, font Calibri 12 pts. On the first page row on the 4 inches line, write your name, subject, date of submission. Then start of essay. Deadline is 21 June 2017, Wednesday. No late papers.

Third, write a paper entitled: Who am I? This is a short essay introducing yourself, your goals in life, your study and work-style, your strong habits, habits you wanted to be changed. Ten years from now, how do you see yourself? Follow the format as stated above. Feed back can also be written via email: leonidas.jose@yahoo.com

Post 5 - Understanding of Poverty and tackling this problem

Our country is considered an "economically-challenge" country. Half of our population of 100 million lives in poverty. Do a search on Philippine poverty. You will be guided on the following items. 1. What is poverty? On a global scale and in the Philippine topics. 2. What are the effects of poverty? 3. Before reading about poverty, what is your perception about the poor? 4. After reading about poverty, did it change your perception about the poor? If yes, write an essay on this. If no, why was there no change? Please site your bibliographic sources at the last page of your paper. Submission date 08 March.

Post 4 - Update on grading of your paper

Regular papers will receive 100% or points upon submission on time. This timeline is reflected on this blog spot. The content will be weighted on 80%. This include some definition of terms, an explanation of the subject content and your group reflection or the opinion on the subject matter, eg. On Death penalty. The 20% points will be examined on your bibliographic content or references and your paper format, eg. use of paragraphs, and relevant pictures that goes into the paper. Please quote accordingly. Please be guided accordingly. You are encouraged to work in a group, but not more than 4 person. There is an option for you to work individually should you have conflict of schedule with other members of the group. Please manage your time so that you can submit on time. Post 2 - On grading papers submitted

Quezon City, 03 Feb. 2017. There are some queries as to the grade that I gave for the papers on Science that was recently submitted. The paper will receive 100 points. They are graded on the content. This part include the discussion of the topic at hand. Usually, this is your response to a particular question given by the teacher. The second component is the presence of your bibliographic sources. This means your work is a referenced work which has a primary source not from you. Some students are adding up some visual articles in their paper which takes my attention. I subject them into reading and analysis if they are linked to the subject matter. If the paper is satisfactory to me particularly those who did "an extra-mile" they get extra points. Sorry for the generated lack of information given to you on my part. Feed back welcome. Thank you.

Post 1 - Blogspot site new-temporary

Post 1. I was not able to recover my password on my previous websites, thus this is an emergency temporary blogspot area. Sorry for the abrupt changes. My bad. On my side.
